behind the scenes
wave rider is named after a song,
architecture in tokyo's wave rider,
which itself samples toshiki kadomatsu's sea line.one of the first results that shows up when you look up
"toshiki kadomatsu sea line" on youtube is a music video,
starring a red car riding on a highway that stretches over the sea.if you're familiar with the game's hydroway,
you should be connecting the dots by now.i wanted to make a game that felt like those songs.
a sort of "autobiographic musical experience."
hence the constant 8x references in the soundtrack.over time, the idea shifted, and it turned
into something a little larger.a speedrunner-oriented racing game with a health system,
that rewards skill and track knowledge.the original idea was to make an "interconnected set of levels",
similarly to how half-life operates.due to technical knowledge limitations, it couldn't be done,however.. maybe in the future,
i'd like to revisit that idea.
